The Missing Link in Running Injury Research: Nonrunning Physical Activity
Running Related Injuries (RRIs) are super annoying for runners especially when it keeps them from running! This viewpoint was a great reminder to consider the whole picture of a runner's life. At times as a Physical Therapist (PT) it is easy to get focused on the pain the runner is experiencing, the training plan the runner has been following, the strength training plan (or lack there of) that is being performed and how the pain affects activities of daily living (ADLs). This viewpoint provided a great clinical pearl to think about in regards to the load that the runner's body is going through throughout that day that may be lending to the pain and also reducing the time that the runner has to recover.
