Dr. Amber's Favorite Running Clothes For Cold Weather

Dr. Amber’s Favorite Clothing to Wear During Cold Weather Runs in the Houston Area.

Keep in mind this can vary person to person, so what may work for me, may not work for you! The main thing to keep in mind is that you will warm up pretty quickly for the majority of the temperatures that we experience in the South. For those of you who run in snow and frequently in below freezing temperatures, I will refer you out to other coaches on that one. :-)

For shorter distances, I may add another layer, but if it is over 3 miles, I am keeping the layers at a minimum because my body will get hot and give me those fun sweat stains in my elbow crease. Therefore, I am a fan of running in sleeveless shirts until about 40ish degrees.

I’d like to hear your feedback on the runner’s sleeves. Do you feel that they keep you warmer, but not as crazy as a long sleeve shirt and having to take off a sweater when you get hot?

I may use gloves sooner than other runners as my circulation is not as good as it once was. If you have worked with me as a PT, you know my hands are super cold almost all the time. I will take the gloves off about 3-5 miles into a run typically unless the temps are below freezing.

If you have any questions or comments, feel free to message me.

Keep living that run life, one mile at a time!
