Dr. Amber's Favorite Ankle Sprain Rehabilitation Exercise

Ankle Sprain Rehabilitation:

Ankle rehab has many tiers of progression. This is a good exercise after the high pain and swelling phase and before plyometrics and weighted or loaded exercises.

How to Perform:

The band is placed around the end of the foot, near the toes, and the client will step side to side. This allows the client to work the hip abductors, but also the ankle everters to prevent the foot from going in. The foot intrinsics (small muscles in the foot) are also worked if this is performed without shoes to sustain balance without external support such as the shoe provides. The clinician can determine if the knees will be bent or straight during this exercise based on the goal of the exercise for each respective client.

Keep living that run life, one mile at a time!
