"Do it Now, Sometimes Later Becomes Never"
This quote rang out to me today. Here's why:
Sign up for that race, even if it scares you. This reminds me of signing up for my first marathon in a decade! During my first marathon in Nashville in 2012, I followed a training plan I found online and was very compliant and had the base/fitness. What kicked my butt was that it was the hottest day of the year so far on race day. As a novice marathon runner, I did not know what to do in regards to hydration, fueling and racing strategy. I took out too fast, drank too many fluids and felt super sick. Did the thought cross my mind to pull out? Yes, multiple times, but I pushed through and finished in 5:03.
Now my goal is to overcome my fear of the marathon distance. It's time to suck it up and get back out there. I have goals for this race, just like with my athletes that I coach, big goal 4:00, realistic goal 4:30 and down and out goal 5:02. (Yes, it's a big spread for this race.) The cool thing is both of these marathons are in the hills, so it will be a good comparison and really let me see I can do this even if I'm 10 years older!
Working with a run coach, and becoming one myself, have really helped me grow as a runner. I know how to better prepare mentally and physically as well as how to strategize for race day! If you are looking for help with running, please check this out!
Keep living that run life, one mile at a time!!
